This is a gorgeous hand etched coal necklace, they call it MUSICA. when you order this necklace you also get a card with a photo of the boys and the history behind this necklace. These necklaces are carved by young boys and young men whom prior to the Fair market trade federation, were having to work in coal mines that had weak to next to nothing infrastructure, poisonous gasses, to aleve the bitter poverty they live in. These boys and young men were dying from the mines collapsing and the poisonous gasses, now with our help they are taking the coal and making it into stunning works of art, hand etched by hands that should never, ever be allowed in a coal mine. These boys now attend school part of the day then they attend classes in the art of MUSICA and hand carving the coal then they go to work making these necklace, much better then risking their young lives in the coal mines of Columbia! This necklace is strung on a silky cord that is knotted in the back, I am also macrameing alpaca fiber with Sterling silve closures so you will have the choice of wearing it with alpaca or the silky cord! What an amazing gift to give and a gift to these poverty stricken boys!!! I only have one left! This zebra knit hat is made out of acrylic and made to fit 5 to 8 year olds. The women in Kenya that knit these hats belong to a group started in 1998, called the Kenana knitters, they earn fair market wages to help lighten their poverty but that is not all they also get free HIV/AIDS testing monthly and given free medicine via a mobile health clinic. Color is a muted gray. The women whom knit these hats are called Kenaya knitters, this is a group that was started in 1998 to help rural women find a much needed income. I have been waiting for these little angels for about 6 months. These alpaca knit hats are knitted by women in Bolivia, high up in the mountains, whom most have been left by their husbands to feed their children and themselves, they knit the hats to create an income, often it is the only thing between them and extreme/dire poverty! These hats are knitted with lots of experience, these women use alpaca fiber for warmth, they live in very cold, inclement weather high in the Andes, so they do a lot of knit hats. I have to say these are my most favorite item on this page! These little hats should be an heirloom, they are top quality and soft, bright striped colors. Castle Ranch Alpacas deals with fair market trade goods with the Federation of Fair market trades so that when I resell, I am assured that our ranch and you the customer are helping a poverty stricken person/family, we STRONGLY believe in this cause. Well each one is a little piece of clay that is placed by hand to the body of this hen then see all of the black with white dots, yep individually done, imagine the hours of painstaking work! This hen was crafted in Bolivia, the back of her is hollow and is large enough to hold candy sewing pins or whatever you want in small amounts. She is beautiful and she is a fair market trade item so you did a good thing, often times in Bolivia the very young to young are put in the coal mines to eke out a living, these types of fair market items gives them jobs with wages they can live on and have at least the basics in life, so feel proud you did a good thing!
